This nuclear power plant replacement chiller had to fit into a very limited space and required minimum on site assembly to reduce outage time. Significant thermal and seismic loads added to the design challenge. In this case, the entire assembly was analyzed in one model, including pressure vessels (shell elements), piping (pipe elements), and structural members (beam elements). This approach significantly increased the accuracy of the analysis and allowed for a more efficient design. The entire equipment was delivered in three modules, placed in service on time and on budget.
